At the sound of the whistle, the 5 year old runners took off in their lanes, racing toward the 50 meter finish line unaware that one tiny athlete remained at the starting line to search for a familiar face in the crowd of cheering spectators parked on the side line. When the heat ended, the young runner, who fought back tears, was quickly swept off her feet by a woman who encouraged and consoled her.
On May 10, runners, athletes, coaches, parents and spectators gathered for an evening of fun and fitness at Emory University . The second All Comer’s Track and Field Event of the season gave participants an opportunity to enjoy track and field events in a non competitive environment.
The cheering and applauding that could be heard throughout the stadium added to the excitement of watching toddlers leap across the sand in the long jump and seeing families race together in the parent-child running event. Some of the other events included the pole vault, high jump, hurdles and the 4×100 meter relay race.
